If you were gonna watch an otter trapping demo at a convention....would you want to see bodygrip use/stabilization methods or catchin' 'em with footholds at dryland sets?

Yes

But if can only choose one I’d opt for the footholds.

I have a fair handle on both but would love to see a demo on cage trapping for otter. Don’t need them in Idaho but I’m a stone’s throw from Washington where they are required.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

I think folks would benefit from a run down on each. I catch about 40% in BG's and 60% with footholds.

Probably what I'll end up doing. Most spectators there will know very little about catching otters.

…. Getting entirely too technical here

…. The people want to be entertained

… so he should show them how to set a 280 where they’re coming in and out of the water

…. Then line dance to copperhead road while juggling set sleepy creek 1.5’s

Kidd..... he spends thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars gardening for deer. Did you really expect him to "just trap otter"?

Edit: Talking about Swamp not Peeler...

….. I’m not sure …. Maybe he knows some kind of way to plant fish plots in order to concentrate the otter in a certain area… and take pictures of them … that could help when it comes to precision trap placement or what have you

…. You’re just not open minded enough

If you have the time, both foot hold and body grip would be nice. BUT for a show topper, Show releasing a LIVE otter from a snare. laugh

For whatever reason anywhere i am something unusual or off the wall is going to happen, lol. They would of needed floats to land in that creek last year!

As for otter, if you want to get rid of every possum and coon in the drainage make a land set for otter, works everytime, lol.

Where you going to do a otter demo at they have no clue what a otter is?

Skippy, last time i released a snared otter when it was finally all over i looked up and a school bus full of kids were staring at me, road dept had stopped traffic up ahead and in all the commotion id not noticed that bus had stopped and i had a live audience, at least it was far enough away they couldn't hear all the foul language being slung around during the process, lol.

You ought to try being less social on here again.

Been there. Done that. When you get the catch pole on them, hanging on is like trying to roll up one of those semi load tarps while on a winding road going 60 mph.

This^^

But for a real showstopper you should demonstrate how to release a hip caught otter out of a 50 year old 330 before it expires... without setters, or a catch pole. That is an interesting rodeo, and just for a bonus you can have your wife standing on the bank giving you advice, while telling you to be careful! Oh, and don't hurt it!

Very good description....it is very similar to this, but I'll add that there will be a mouth full of sharp teeth involved from the start to the end.
