Around my neck-of-the-woods Lake Erie has a great walleye population Had to go to the Doctor so drove into a town about 15 miles away Dunkirk NY Was impressed to see a mural getting painted. Talked to the artist, said he'd be done today ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/07/full-53947-296185-1545.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/07/full-53947-296186-1546.jpg)

Walleye may be my favorite fish to eat. There's a good reason they call them "poor man's lobster."
Eh...wot?

Walleye is very good. Gets the stamp of approval from this deep-South fish-eater. But, don't have any this far south. We just have clean tasting bass...

We eat a lot of walleye here too, Turtledale. That is one nice mural! I haven't seen too many murals I've liked. I feel guilty to say that, and maybe they were painted by kids or something, but that walleye is nice!

Nevah had one. Guess I'll have to get a fire hydrant jig.

That's a cool looking mural, but not very realistic. Walleye are great eating and fun to catch, but you'll never see one break the surface like that. That appears to be a bass transitioning to a walleye or vise versa. May fly hatch is on right now. Got my limit of eyes this morning. 8 feet of water. They were breaking the surface all around the boat feeding on May flies. Besides this next couple weeks I rarely see them break the surface.

That appears to be a bass transitioning to a walleye or vise versa. Never say never! I was casting a 5 inch stick bait to some shallow rocks one night on Mille Lacs and had a 24 inch walleye jump a foot out of the water when I set the hook on it. It's the only one I ever seen do it . I figured because of the water only being 2 feet when it hit it's momentum took it clear of the surface. It was a fun night.

Hey Turtledale, what part of NY are you in? I stopped in Sunset Bay Beach on my way back from Canada, talked to some locals and they were telling me about a big walleye tourney held there.
