I don't keep bass unless I'm fishing with my granddaughter which is most every Friday from spring to fall. She insists on keeping every legal fish we catch and having a Friday Night Fish Fry.

I'm more than happy to oblige her. I did say no to fall fish after we tried them the first time and she surprisingly agreed. A fall fish is our largest minnow specie and on one of the rivers we fish we regularly catch 15-20 in a morning with sizes ranging from 8"-15".

Fall fish meat is soft to the point of being mushy and it doesn't have a very good flavor. Our Friday Night Fall Fish Fry was a once and done deal. LOL

Bass are way better than fall fish but that's a pretty low bar.

I prefer walleye, yellow perch, crappie and other pan fish over bass but as long as the granddaughter wants to keep and eat bass, that's what we'll do.

Eh...wot?

Yes…enjoy pond managers who ask to take out the small ones. If they have a rather large head for body size, and a concave belly they go home with me. Can catch a lot on a rooster tail.

Carp is our biggest minnow.
No fall fish that I know of.
Pa. is a big state.

The one Hybrid striper I ate
was not great. Large red
streak in the fillet.

…. You got to cut the red out … that goes for catfish too

… make a cut on either side… then pull it right out and the fillet stays in tact if you want it that way

Yep. But those were mostly all red.
From Lake Aurther.
Soak em in milk, seasonings, camo of choice.
If you have em mixed in with other filets no one notices.

You are correct of course. I should have said fall fish are our largest native minnow. Carp are not native to PA.

Fall fish taste about the same as carp.

Who brings fish with them INTO Canada?

I have nothing clever to put here.

Bass are fun to catch, but I never keep them. They say smallmouth are decent to eat. I didn't find that to be true either. Maybe smallmouth smoked?

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.

I’m thinking about keeping a few the next time I go out. I know lots of guys look at Bass as a sport fish and hate seeing people keep them. I get dirty looks when people see my stringer full of Smallmouth Bass.

You guys like eating Largemouth? Do they taste similar to Smallmouth?

never had smallies but love me some good fried largemouth

listen money cant buy happiness but it can buy traps, fishing lures and guns witch is practically the same thing.

My dad never would eat bass because he said he didn't like the taste and I got a buddy that don't like them but they taste okay to me so I have no problem with eating them.

Must be something in northern waters that gives LM bass bad flavor.

Clean tasting fish here in the South.
