No Carp here, but when I was fishing for pickerel (walleye) out of Sandusky back in the mid 80s we visited a guys camp and had some smoked Carp-it was pretty good eating. Who brings fish with them INTO Canada? Did you even read his post? You must be slipping in your old age?

My grandad came from Iowa and I guess I don’t recall him ever admitting to eating a bass, my apologies to Outlaw, but he would eat most any kind of fish and loved springtime bullhead. That being said, he became an avid walleye fisherman after homesteading up here.
Cold spring kid, my suggestion you might have yankee roots was on account of the similarities in taste as to not being that picky as long as fish is fish… no offense intended.

Never tried walleye..we don't have any. But if they are better than a white perch (that's a crappie for you Yankees), they have to be mighty good. I've heard they are but I can't prove it.
Crappie and white perch are not the same.

I would only eat bass if I didn't have any other fish to eat. Smoked carp. I believe the buffalo carp Is the one that's smoked or pickled. There is a big difference between a regular carp and a buffalo carp. And smoked bullheads are some fine eating. I can remember eating pickled herring. It came in a white sauce or a brine. I think it was called Noon Hour herring. Well, a friend of mine used buffalo carp and it was just as good. Time of the year and size of the fish will have some Bering on its taste.

Blind Robins for the win. When I was a kid, every convenient store would have blind robin snacks hanging behind the register ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/07/full-53947-296344-1555.jpg)
