The adult ash borer lays its tiny eggs on the ash tree. By the time the larvae reach the size that the woodpeckers can detect them, it's too late for the tree. The majority of the damage has been done.
Unfortunately, ash trees are as doomed as American chestnuts and elm trees.

Correct Carl. There’s trunk injunctions that can be done to inoculate them, but once there’s sign of EAB, the trees toast.
Like I said way above, if there’s woodpeckers on it, it’s days are numbered.

I bought my first house in 02. Went to a tree auction and stood there all day and bought whatever tree sold for cheap. At the end of the day I had about 20 trees. 14 of them were ash trees. When I sold that house in 2020 I think there was only one or two of them left and they were half dead.

Ended up I was standing there all day buying the bug tress at the nursery auction that non of the professional landscapers wanted thinking I was getting deals on them lol.

The mushroom guys I know found hundreds of gallons of mushrooms around ash trees and now that they are all dead they don't count mushrooms by the gallon anymore. The trees dying didn't help either. lol.

Saved by woodpeckers and a wasp. Gotta love the stupidity you can find on the internet.

Problem is, woodpeckers on them trees is a good sign that it’s gotta be removed. They’re the early indicator. By the time you know it’s got EAB, it’s too late to save the tree.
I just did this friggin awareness course at work on these buggers.

We should work on a hybrid genetically modified woodpecker next, last get Dr Fauci on it…

The ash trees along the river here seem to know when they are on the way out. They start dropping seeds like crazy. There’s hundreds of little ash trees popping up.

Just in time to keep the food source going for the borer beetle.

Exactly, I wonder if the little ones will make it to seeding age before the bugs get em.
