Turkey numbers have tanked in my area. So on the way home a couple weeks ago there were 17 turkeys in the dirt road about 300 yards from my driveway pleased me greatly. I put out a deer block and some bird seed 80 yards from my man cave window. They arrived and took up residence. Now its unusual not to have them there several times a day. When they leave the squirrels, rabbits, crows and deer arrive. There were 6 bucks in the field at one time. New corn/ deer block lasted 3 days. This morning some social hen brought several friends with her. 6 hens, one bearded, and a bunch of poults. I think only one special needs poult has been lost.

More poults will be lost once a local hawk notices they are gathering at the feed.

Right now the plouts in my area are really variable in size. Some older, some new. Good to see a few. More fishers need killing

Once watched two hens with poults feed in a pasture. The boss hen made a noise and all the other turkeys ran for cover. She stood her ground. A hawk tried to get a poult but failed. A male turkey in the woods even gobbled once. After the danger passed, the boss hen made a noise and the poults all came back to her.

Bobcats & coyotes will backtrack the doe from the feed back to the hidden fawn also.

I'm reluctant to put out feed (in a pile or at a feeder) until about August to allow poults and fawns to become more efficient at escaping predators. No need to help the predators.
