I scouted today, found fresh sign and moved traps putting in flat sets with beaver tail oil or sac oil.

Made a catch last night in new double flat set using beaver tail oil. I took my Jack Russell to the trap line today and he found several pee posts for me. I will set those on Friday.

Dogs are a very underrated tool. Intact are best, but even spayed/ neutered ones work by nature. For visual learners, watching your dog work active natural scent posts is unbeatable next to the actual animal itself. I have a spayed 85 lb female Pitbull and a neutered Male Basset (quite the pair, yes). When the Basset finds an active post I may have over looked, there’s nothing, and I mean nothing funnier than watching him almost tip over trying to get his point of aim where he wants it.

The prevailing wind there is west. When I was resetting today, a rescue vehicle blew the siren and that set off the coyotes yipping so now I know where the den is. The den is downwind of the melon field and every pee post except for one was downwind. So they are using the wind coming into the melons which is no big surprise to me. Those dogs are masters of the wind.
