I'll always believe animal rights are just a finger of the fist of communism/socialism that liberal freaks want!
I can't believe over 100,000 signed the petition .

The Oregon Peace Act, formally Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), is a proposed 2026 ballot measure that would extend animal cruelty protections to nearly all animals, effectively banning hunting, fishing, trapping, livestock farming, and animal research in Oregon.
Overview of IP28
Initiative Petition 28, also known as the PEACE Act, seeks to remove legal exemptions in Oregon’s animal abuse statutes that currently allow activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, livestock farming, and animal research to be conducted legally

. If passed, IP28 would classify nearly all intentional injury or killing of animals as criminal, including actions traditionally considered lawful under current law.

Key Provisions
Hunting and Fishing: All licensed hunting and sport or commercial fishing would be considered animal abuse and become illegal statewide

.
Trapping and Pest Control: Legal trapping, including pest and wildlife management, would be prohibited

.
Livestock and Farming Practices: Raising animals for food, dairy, eggs, or fiber would be criminalized. Standard livestock practices such as dehorning, tail docking, castration, and artificial insemination would be classified as sexual assault under the initiative

.
Animal Research and Education: Use of animals in research, teaching, or wildlife management programs would be banned

.
Tribal Hunting and Fishing: Oregon Tribes would not be exempted; treaty-protected subsistence and ceremonial hunting/fishing could be affected

.
Exceptions: Only self-defense against immediate harm and veterinary care performed according to state standards would remain legal

Who Would Be Affected
Approximately one million Oregonians involved in hunting, fishing, trapping, agriculture, or animal research could face criminal liability if IP28 passes

. The initiative would also impact Oregon’s Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), which relies heavily on hunting and fishing license fees and federal excise taxes for funding wildlife management and conservation programs

Current Status
As of late May 2026, the campaign behind IP28 had submitted over 120,000 raw signatures, surpassing the threshold required to qualify for the November 2026 ballot

. The initiative must be certified by the Oregon Secretary of State before appearing on the ballot. Supporters of IP28 emphasize that the measure aims to change attitudes toward animal rights and welfare, while opponents highlight the potential economic and cultural impacts on hunting, fishing, and agriculture

.

Implications
If enacted, IP28 would represent one of the most sweeping expansions of animal protection laws in the United States, fundamentally altering legal and economic practices related to animals in Oregon. It would also raise significant questions about wildlife management, food production, and cultural traditions tied to hunting and fishing.
Voters in Oregon will have the opportunity to decide on this measure in the November 2026 general election, provided the initiative is certified and qualifies for the ballot

I predict it gets about 33% of the vote. Generally about a third of the American population are whack jobs; in Oregon maybe a bit higher.

You are correct, but I don’t think a lot of them know it. It’s a vicious cycle. People don’t learn from their mistakes, history is soon forgotten and has to be relearned.
It’s always good to look forward, but history taught some valuable lessons……don’t forget to look back every now and then……
