Sounds like he earned it. Must have been bad if everyone keep it quiet. People love to talk. Sounds like the cops didnt try to hard on it either. Hard to investigate the killing of someone your happy is gone.

If everything in that book was true he needed killing.

Living close here you heard lots of crazy stories and I believe most of them. The guy had nerves of steel.

Was pretty close to here. Ken Rex McElroy He came over here some for his stealing but it was mainly Nodaway County. He made a living stealing cattle, hogs, grain, and farm chemicals. A lot of crazy but true stories. Did well enough at stealing that he had two new trucks, decent house, and supported his many children by different women(some underage). Transmission went out in one of his used trucks so he drove around until he found one like his, showed up at night, dropped the transmission and took it with him. Had a trailer of stolen hogs when the law got after him. Went to a gravel road, jack knifed the trailer on a bridge, disconnected, went home and called in the trailer as stolen. Shot two men in different instances. Never went to prison as he would get out on bond, intimidate the witnesses (including burning down multiple houses), court date no one testified against him so not guilty. His murder stemmed from the town believing that he was not going to go to prison for shooting one of the men, they took the law in to their own hands, problem solved. FBI tried to infiltrate the town to get information. Really even to this day a new comer in town is treated politely and courteous but the subject is never talked about. Two or three killed him. One died recently of old age, not sure about the other one or two.

The made for TV movie is called: In Broad Daylight. If you read it on Wikipedia it says his wife was in the truck with him. Incorrect. She was not allowed to leave the restaurant/bar. Anyone in the truck would have been killed. They shot enough to make sure he was dead. After he died his foot floored the truck and the motor just ran wide open until it blew. I believe after awhile someone called law enforcement to inform them that they should come to town.

I remember the story. Folks got tired of his crap and took care of the problem. Nobody talked.
Thank for sharing, Nate.
