Has anybody experienced this ? Weekly small charges a buck or two sometimes 4 to 5 times a day from cities far (1000 miles) and nearby?

Just lost my card from 2 attempted purchases. This is the 5 th time since Christmas when I lost both cards, personal and business!

Thats why I prefer a credit card. Dispute the charge and your not out any money while it gets sorted out.

Just had two debit Visa cards hacked two weeks ago. Two different banks, got all the money back by disputing charges. One was $1700 one was $180 +~.

Those small charges are usually tests before a big purchase. Not sure why they do that but it’s apparently pretty common for crooks to make a small charge first.

Only time I had any kind of fraud like that was when I gave my number in an email. Never knew it was bad to send that number by txt or email. They got programs that scam millions looking for that info.
With scanning technology, how many deactivate the scan chip in their cards or use an RF wallet?
It’s easy enough for someone to just scan your pocket as they walk by.

We've had to get new credit cards several times after being hacked or numbers stolen....banks take the charges off and issue you a new card, I doubt they ever go after the fraud...
I used to line my wallet with this super thin copper bonded to paper, no idea what it was for, found it,. Now I have a RF proof wallet....

Lots of people out there that deserve a ride through a wood chipper.... cool

My bank catches it for me. Twice they shut my debit card off. They give the $ back to me.

My debit cards have been fraudulently used several times. My bank always issues me "provisional credit" in the disputed amount until the issue is resolved. The biggest PITA is waiting for the new card to arrive after they shut down the old one.

It's happened to me a few times. It was explained to me that those are "test shots" to see if the numbers the hackers have are correct. They are small amounts so as not to be noticed. A larger amount usually follows.

This^^^^

Never had an issue with the bank restoring the charges. I’ve had more issues with cc. Skimmers at gas pumps is usually the means. Had it happen at Parker Canyon Lake at the kiosk for the day pass. Touchless pay limits it.

I had my new debit card stolen out of a mail sorting center in Portland. Then they somehow got my SS number and changed my pin. Started taking money out of ATM's on a Sunday so less chance the bank gets involved. By Monday afternoon they had almost wiped me out.

Bank took care of it but weren't interested in trying to catch the culprit even though they had pics of them at the ATM's. From here on out I pick up my new cards at the local branch...no more mail.

Have had my credit card hit twice. Both times the cc company overnighted me a new one. Not much inconvenience that way.

It’s not a bad idea to have a savings account at the bank you have your debit card. Only keep what you need in the debit account. It’s easy to transfer money from savings to debit/checking account using on line banking with your phone as you need it. This limits the amount hackers have access to.

I use my debt card at the stores I frequent often
grocery store , gas station , farm and fleet , fleet farm

anything else gets the credit card and I move the money out of checking to the CCpay account right from my phone when I get back to the truck.

it is worth watching your account like a hawk every day or two.
I had a 50 dollar charge on my credit card from a place I very well would have ordered from but did not , it was a web site I had looked at parts for a co-workers UTV while we were discussing adding heat for while he plowed with it.
it came through at 04:00 on a Sunday so I caught it and the bank issued me a new card they had it to me by the end of the week.

I carry cash for little stuff so I have the same repeating charges most of the time, gas , groceries , ect.. I also have most of the stores other than the grocery store set to email me the receipt so I have a reference copy to refer to.

there is less of an issue with disputed charges on the CC than some debt cards

it is always a good idea to keep a week or mores expenses in cash in the house in the event you can't access your bank money. while they get you new cards.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My bank uses MasterCard and it takes a minimum of three-four days to have a new card sent to the bank or my address. It's a PITA.

Getting in the habit of transferring money from savings to debit can also slow down spending a bit. Makes you stop and think before just whipping out your card for another round! lol

Mine gets hacked on a regular basis. Bank is good at catching it. I can take cards for my wildlife business, but won’t take them by email or text, just because I don’t want people thinking it was me messing with the account. I do take by phone and destroy the number afterwards.

I guess I'm old fashioned. I only pay with cash.
