What do you all do to stay occupied in the summer? We've gotten into gardening pretty heavy, doesn't interfere with spring fishing too much and by the time the garden is labor intensive, we are done pretty much fishing for the season. I've got all my prep work done for trapping this fall other than buying some lure at the upcoming conventions. All I have to do is pack, roll out and get trapping. Fingers crossed it works out like I have planned.

My fishing season is 12 months long…… and it’s still too short.

I've actually gone the other way - cut back on my garden so there is more time for fishing!

Anything outdoors and farm or hunting and fishing related and shooting. Or at least thing I did at one time and think I still do even it hi haven't in a while.

Example.
Bees, mapple sugar, garden, starting making wine, reloading, shooting, building things, hunting, fishing, cutting trees &firewood,( work yet I find fun) teaching skills based classes, and just enjoying the outdoors.

Waiting on it to get dark so can catch grass frogs. Then look for hungry catfish.

Fishing, musky, small mouth, crappie and walleyes.Hunting, when I had more time I really enjoyed archery hunting,I normally have more time with the rifle, love waterfowl hunting. When work allows I play golf, last year I was only able to get out 4 times, this year I've been out 10 times since May.When the weather is right, rain and warm temps I get out foraging mushrooms,so between working Control trapping for cattlemen I have too many hobbies....

When I am not smoldering the rear tires on this....I hit a cruise night on Thursday nights

Shoot my English self bow behind be the house

Go to the gun range with the smoothbore flintah

Do some trolling for salmon & Trout

Smoke my pipe

Grow some maters

Make my own bread & Butter refrigerator pickles.

Did I mention Sourdough

Help with the flock of sheep at the house.( But not much..lol )

Drag the campers to the fairs...where my son is showing his oxford sheep

Then it's ice fishing ...and playing with model train lay out.

And nuisance beaver trapping...

I think I left some other things out

I have a large garden and do lots of freezing and canning, fishing, hiking with a light back pack, reading, word puzzles and this year yet, getting things sorted from moving last fall. Lot of work getting a trap storage area, skinning area and fur drying area setup alont with all the other things that needed to be changed. For me I have to go through every season at least once to get things squared away.

I was fortunate to have been taught by an old Japanese gentleman how to polish Japanese swords correctly. they really fasinate me , to me they, and fine English doubles, represent some of the finest level of functional art and you can study them as deep as you want, it seems endless in it's depth. I feel all scholary like when hitting the books and the blades, for an old hillbilly like me hat's really cool
