Greetings,

I am curious to learn what states legally allow the use of an injectable agent, like acetone or another euthanasia solution, to dispatch skunks. This is commonly delivered through "kill injection poles." When I say legal, I mean is says it black and white in state regulations that is permissible. Thanks!

Keep it to PM on methods/

Some individuals use statistics as a drunk man uses lamp-posts — for support rather than for illumination.

I will say this, In WA DFW will tell you, you have very limited choices for dispatch. They refer you to AVMA guidelines. If you look at the actual laws on the books it is very vague so nothing black and white.

I suspect few if any states talk about dispatch methods for specific animals. The states I’m familiar with want the dispatch to be humane.

Georgia, by strict reading of the regulation the only legal option is 22 rimfire.

It shall be unlawful to fail to carry a 22 rimfire....

That or must be released as it is also unlawful to fail to carry a catch pole to release.

Nothing else in the regs.

I hate the grey areas. Most all DNR folk are not looking to jam you up and understand the conditions, urban Atlanta, some of us work in. As long as you CYA and don't do something stupid they ain't looking.

BUT

The county karens don't know none of that. I've had Animal Control look me in the eye and say footholds have been illegal for a hundred years. Nor do judges as my local magistrate judge is on record saying that state law does not apply in Spalding county.

But what are the options? The regs really can't micromanage. Best case do your best and CYA.
