Probably been talked about before but I’ve recently acquired a couple 6mm Rems. Wondering if anyone has a fur friendly load or bullet they’re using.

I had luck with the 60 gr sierra hp. I loaded my .243(6mm) to about 3100 fps.

A friend of mine suggested to me to try the 90 gr solid from Sierra which was his favorite to reload . I've used them but there isn't a magic bullet that completely illuminates sewing up bullet holes , besides the one that doesn't get used ha ha yes poor humor I agree .

I've also tried some of the 55 gr Sierra plastic tipped bullets which acted similar to the solids for whatever reason I didn't have the expansion I hoped for .

Let us know what you find for a bullet . I enjoy my old .6 mm Remington !

I know bullets have changed since a decade when I done this but the only true fur friendly load I ever saw on Fox is with the 75grain lead cast bullet just don’t shoot him in the head. Never tried it because they didn’t exist back then but you may go with the super light bullet and Ia hollowpoint hoping there is no exit wound and at the angle is corrected it dont blow a hole and Them as big of a golf ball

My first centerfire rifle was a Remington 788 in 6mm. I used the Speer 80 grain Hot Core spitzer back then with decent results. I generally had to sew up a 3/4" to 1 1/2" hole. I tried the 60 Sierra HPs and got bigger exits but not terrible. The issue with 6mm bullets is there is just not enough mass in a coyote to reliably stop larger diameter bullets. There are numerous light, varmint bullets available for the 243/6mm and some guys report good results with them as fur bullets.

I currently shoot a 6mmx222 and a 6x45 and fur damage is pretty minimal with both with the few bullets I've tried. So far I've used the Speer 80 grain and the Sierra 60 grain HP in the 6mmx222 and the 75 grain VMax in the 6x45. The few coyotes I've taken with them have had favorable results. Exits but small, requiring just a few quick stitches. But both rounds are running way behind the 6mm Remington in velocity so I would expect less expansion and less fur damage from them.

I wish I still had that old 788 6mm. It kept me fed and the rent paid a couple of lean winters when I first got out of college and had moved to eastern Washington where I knew no one and didn't have family close by to fall back on. Coyotes were worth a lot back then and the 788 was my constant companion. I'd love to have it back and try some of the newer bullets in it.

Not a 6mm but i used a 257 roberts on a lot of coyotes and a few r. fox . best bullet i found was a speer 100gr hot core or remington 100 gr psp. minimal expansion. Stayed away from shoulders, organic shrapnel was bad
