There is 128 active forest fire in northern Ontario and 9 aircraft to tend them I have read. The smoke is now in southern Ontario, so expect it south of lake Erie and Ontario soon.

Heavy smoke here in Michigan's thumb. Just noticed it about 2 hours ago. Smells like a campfire and low visibility.

Heavy smoke in NW Wisconsin today. First we have 95 plus temps for the week then when the wind changes and blows from the north to cool us down it brings the smoke. I guess I would rather have the heat. At least I could be outside without coughing. Looks like a rerun of last couple years.

Only 9 aircraft for Canadian fire control?? Seems that a country (southern half anyways) that is at least 70% forested should have a few more pieces of equipment lying around for such things.

I was just talking to a guy in town who said there are 17 different fires burning in the Boundary Waters and apparently the BWCA is shut down until Friday because of the fire danger. I`ve seen areas of the BW after these fires and it just looks like the surface of the moon. What a bummer.
The Beaver and the Bear will show the way.

Heavy smoke over Western New York now. Everything has a weird yellow glow, like right before an eclipse

This is hands down a way better map. https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/ If you know what satellites and sensors to select, you can really get a good picture of the situation. The fir map we have at work is a clustered mess, looks like the north half of the province is on fire. In reality, it not near as bad. A purple dot may be "out of control" but it might be on an island surrounded but miles of swamp, not a big deal, can send a bird dog every now and then to get real eyes on if they want. There's a new system coming out soon as I believe MODIS life is finished.

In Ontario they dont fight any fires in the far north.Forest fires are a natural ocurrence and are part of natural forest succession. They protect the forest(put out fires) that is designated for timber harvest. No timber harvest in the far north.
