Bergamot oil is usually made from the citrus fruit, not the mint family flower. The flower is named bergamot because of its similarity in smell to the citrus fruit called bergamot. The citrus fruit is bitter and pretty close to inedible. The oil comes from the peel.

You can make an essential oil from the bergamot flower with a still, like other members of the mint family, but the product is different and not used much.

I posted a video on how to make essential oils a year or two ago. I'll see if I can find it.

I've looked into making essential oils to sell for a while now.

My wife is into essential oils. She has a book on how to use and apply. Above is picture of what is stated in the book. Instead of processing yourself you can just purchase a certified pure grade from someone who sales DoTerra oils.

That's what gives "Earl Grey Tea" it's distinct flavor.
