Been a licensed nuisance trapper for several years now. Catching lots of coon, beaver, and skunk. I am growing tired of covering cage traps with cloth and trying to syringe skunks in a cage is not my favorite thing to try and accomplish. I am looking to get a skunk trap and that is where you come in. There is lots of tube traps on the market and even some plastic box cage traps which look nice. I am looking to asphyxiate or drown them once trapped. If the tube traps work good how do you verify your catch before dispatching? Thanks for the help….

If targeting skunks, cover the cage BEFORE you set it. Get some cage covers at WCS for the 7x7x24 size cages. You can also get some for 12x12x30 cages.

Break down and get the enclosed no spray traps for catching and transporting. As long as using no spray can look in the end of trap to verify catch, What works for me in dispatching is taking a dryer exhaust hose, one end over the exhaust pipe of your gas power automobile other end under either a tarp or contactor bag that is covering and has trap sealed under it. 15 minutes and expired skunk that allows extraction of essence if so inclined to save.
Have found gas powered vehicles work faster than diesel.

Tubes or Poly traps you can look in thru the holes in the doors, See what you have.

most of my tube traps have grate opening on the back end. I have stood them up on there back and slowly opened the door a bit while shining a light down the tube.

You could also customize the Dura Poly as pictured. Got this idea originally from an old LA Trapper post. Would suggest a smaller opening tho plus additional welded wire screen on the inside of the trap. Note the chewed plastic by a coon. Venting this trap as such would also help critters caught if your intent is to release/translocate them and you can't get to them in timely manner.

I used the Minnesota Plasti-Catch for years in eastern Washington to trap skunks in town. It works great. Only ever had one spray and that was when I hit a huge pot hole that jarred my fillings and his essence out. The only modification I make is to drill three 1/2" holes in the back up near the top to let air out for dispatch. I used a barrel of water in the back yard but a pond or creek works well, whatever is handy. I guess in Washington that method is no longer allowed so I'm not sure how I would deal with them in that trap. I live in Idaho now so I can use my old method. You can see through the holes in the front to determine your catch.
