Labor intensive crops like lettuce, raspberries, strawberries, cilantro etc are now increasingly becoming an import from Mexico, Guatemala and other countries south of the border where labor is cheap. Coincidentally, that is where Cyclospora is native to.

It's no surprise to anybody in the fruit and veggie trade that when labor up here is in short supply those crops will no longer be grown as much and we will depend more and more on imports. Expect more outbreaks in the future if farmers can't profitably grow these items any longer in northern latitudes.

So what makes nasty Mexican workers less nasty if they work illegally in the U.S. as opposed to legally in Mexico?

Yep. If you eliminate slave labor or quasi slave labor your forced to innovate. There's an argument that Rome and Greece never experienced an industrial revolution because they utilized slave labor, mechinizing actually risk profits when you have cheap labor.

There's a good solution to the problem of needing cheap labor for crap work. I and many other Americans, have suffered harm to health and finances from those Canadian hosers' forest fires. I propose that we take millions of snow Mexicans as reparations. You wouldn't even have to hit them like a cue ball, to get more English out of them, except for those stinky Quebecois.
