Labor intensive crops like lettuce, raspberries, strawberries, cilantro etc are now increasingly becoming an import from Mexico, Guatemala and other countries south of the border where labor is cheap. Coincidentally, that is where Cyclospora is native to.
It's no surprise to anybody in the fruit and veggie trade that when labor up here is in short supply those crops will no longer be grown as much and we will depend more and more on imports. Expect more outbreaks in the future if farmers can't profitably grow these items any longer in northern latitudes.

So what makes nasty Mexican workers less nasty if they work illegally in the U.S. as opposed to legally in Mexico?

AI Overview Here's where cyclosporiasis is spreading as cases are ...The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports over 4,100 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis in the U.S. since May 1, 2026, with health departments reviewing an additional 7,400 probable cases. This record-high count spans 41 states, including a major multi-state outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce affecting at least 9 states.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | CDC (.gov) +4 350 million people and 11500 cases of diarrhea. Just cause the news media is desperate to sell advertising time, does not mean you need to worry about everything a talking tv head tells you to. If you want cheap labor do what Mexico does. No welfare.

I remember eating all that American grown stuff ...Before Biden opened up the southern boarder.. Who picked it during Obama & Trump's first term ?? Or did the Lefties ruin crop pickers with a higher minimum wage ??

You are becoming a 3rd world country-everybody got the chits. No environmental safety standards. And you want us to import your milk-no thanks.

But who's gonna pick the cotton! ONE guy in a cotton combine. Yep. If you eliminate slave labor or quasi slave labor your forced to innovate. There's an argument that Rome and Greece never experienced an industrial revolution because they utilized slave labor, mechinizing actually risk profits when you have cheap labor.

But who's gonna pick the cotton! ONE guy in a cotton combine. We got a Georgia congressman just northeast of me that thinks his next job is as a field hand if he doesnt get his way. Personally, I think it would do him some good.
