This coyote like so many others made it past at least one set before his luck ran out.

I cannot stress enough how important gang sets are when it comes to catching coyotes consistently.

The odds multiple sets provide help insure a willing contestant does not walk away from the crime scene.

How many would you normally consider as a gang set? two? three? I am sure the area really dictates it, but curious what your thought process is.

Tejas dive in a little deeper on the no backing sets.I have a couple more weeks before I am back on my feet.I have a place I need to get too before September and I am cutting it close. Have a young man starting some bait sites for me and is seeing a fair amount of sign.I will be setting some secondary sets off the bait sites. Thanks.

Aside from the overall density & location traffic, several other factors come into play as well.

Road lines can differ greatly from bait stations in terms of set numbers, attractants, placement, & strategy.

On a road line, three flat sets are usually enough to hedge against a walk away on most savvy hombres.
An additional set or two might be added in case of heavy traffic.

The type of attractant or look can also determine in part how many sets are deployed at the location.
For instance, an attractant with a lot of holding power might require fewer backup sets than a curiosity smell.
On the other hand, a hole set with a high chance of being defeated might require more reinforcements than a flat set.

I also think it is wise to take into consideration just how much game your local K-9"s have.
Some of the coyotes here are an Almighty Trial. For the wise guys you need a little something extra.
Additional sets, good blending, and the use of a ground tarp provide the edge that helps me reel them in.

In any situation, Flats remain my number one coyote killer by a country mile.
Its versatility is second to none.
