The Revealing Diaries of Dr. Fauci
Newly released diaries tell a different story from what he told you.

By The Editorial Board
July 27, 2026 5:47 pm ET

Anthony Fauci made himself the public face of pandemic lockdowns in 2020, and now we have a glimpse of what was going on behind his eyes. Newly released diaries paint an unflattering portrait of a self-obsessed and not entirely honest bureaucrat, in contrast to the image of the careful scientist he cultivated in public.

The documents were released by Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who for years has dug into the Covid story to understand why the government response to the health crisis was so destructive. The excerpts Sen. Paul has published, which run to more than 1,100 pages, cover December 2019 just before the first reports of an outbreak in Wuhan, China, through Dr. Fauci’s retirement from government in December 2022.

The diary reads as if it was intended to be an aide-mémoire for an autobiography Dr. Fauci might write one day, so it pays to read with care. He might have shaded the truth with an eye (or two) on history. Yet that possibility makes what’s in it all the more remarkable.

One conclusion is that on important points Dr. Fauci was both wrong and dishonest. For instance, he and allies in the government-science industrial complex still cling to the theory that Covid-19 evolved naturally in animal populations before spreading to humans.

Yet on Feb. 1, 2020, his diary records a meeting with a dozen prominent virologists in which only two credited this “natural origins” theory. The rest suspected the virus might have been created artificially, not least because a leading scientist in Wuhan, Shi Zhengli, was known to engage in the sort of gain-of-function research that could produce such a result.

The diary suggests that by Jan. 26, 2020, Dr. Fauci believed the virus hadn’t originated in the Wuhan wet market, often identified as the source by natural-origin advocates. This didn’t stop him and allies from painting skeptics of the natural-origin theory as politicized cranks and conspiracy theorists. Previously released documents shed light on how Dr. Fauci orchestrated publication of a scientific paper to suppress the theory that Covid leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The diary also brags on Dr. Fauci’s influence persuading the likes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom and then-New York Mayor Bill de Blasio to shut schools and lock down large parts of the economy. Yet he later claimed in public that he never argued for locking anything down.

Liberals lionize Dr. Fauci now for his antagonism toward President Trump. But early in the pandemic the diary suggests the doctor was besotted with Mr. Trump—mainly, it appears, because Mr. Trump said nice things about him. He’s similarly susceptible to the flattery of celebrities.

Conversely, Dr. Fauci gloated to himself about his viciousness toward critics. July 14, 2020, saw him trying to quash a skeptical memo about his policies by Journal contributor Stephen Moore. “I told [White House aide Alyssa Farah] that the White House (either Meadows or the POTUS) need to shut up Stephen Moore and stop his publication of ‘Dr. Wrong’ paper. If he does not the entire academic community will dump all over the POTUS.”

He attempted to freeze lockdown skeptics out of policy-making roles. He refers to Jay Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta and Martin Kulldorff, authors of the lockdown-critical Great Barrington Declaration, as “the 3 stooges.”

The most embarrassing entries relate Dr. Fauci’s fixation with his own press coverage. He makes a note of his many interviews, and a positive newspaper profile can garner as much mention in the diary as the important scientific and policy debates of that day.

The media idolatry is something to behold—and may be one reason that most of the press will ignore the diaries. They incriminate the press in Dr. Fauci’s deceptions. “Amazing profile of me today on Nightline,” he writes at one point. “Multiple editorials (print news Washington Post, etc.) and opinion pieces (Newsweek) written about me. Cannot keep up or even read all of them. Country needs someone to look up in the face of Trump presidency.”

***
All of which points to a larger lesson still unlearned from the Covid debacle. The doctor of the diaries comes across as all too human—stubborn, biased, vain and vindictive. Yet the media and most of the political class treated him as a Solomonic sage, the perfect technocrat capable of managing all of society.

The Covid record shows that his advice was often wrong, and in the case of the lockdowns catastrophically so. This is why voters increasingly rebel against rule by “experts.” After reading the Fauci diaries, the real question is why we’d ever allow such a person to rule over us in that way again.

put him in the slammer and take every nickel he has to be given to the dead family members. Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky keeps pushing but it appears there are people in power brush him to side and the American people get nothing in return.

It can not be repeated enough that this man and his group of useful idiots(MSM), need to be beat into submission. I almost feel sorry for those amongst us that bought into his lies and propaganda. But then I think about all the false accusations and smears that were tossed at us who chose to think freely and not drink the Kool Aid…. These occults are all the same, find a bunch of sheep, scare them into believing something foolish, have them throw away all their freedoms, then take off with all of the followers money…. Or talk them into drinking from the cup that you will not sip from…. Kinda telling right?? This man needs a 40’ oak with a 30’ rope. I will guarantee he will never submit an apology or rescind his prior actions…. What a puke, but most of us have known this for years now!

I've noticed that folks really don't like discussing what happened during this period. Maybe because many believed the narrative at that time.

The vaxxed don't want t hear it, that's for sure, but every time they get sick it will be foremost in their thoughts.

Truly sorry about your brother J Staton, and it's really not enough consolation at this point, but know that rat Fauci will be lit up like a blowtorch in the pit of hades for all eternity.

Can't blame folks for buying into the crazy and taking the shots, it was a well orchestrated program by people that should have been trusted, ...unfortunately they weren't trustworthy... easy to say after the fact that people should have known....but when everyone is telling you your likely to die, well that makes an impression..lol

That said, I didn't take any shots or boosters or get sick, not saying I'm a genius, but the hype just didn't seem right, but I don't blame those that went along...

I honestly didn't know what to think at the time. Especially when it came to considering older family with weakened immune systems. I wasn't too concerned about myself.

I didn't get the shot. None of my family did either and they are all still kicking.

On the other hand, I have good friends that did get the shots and they are also still kicking.

I know of people who got the shot and died, and people who didn't get the shot and died.

So, I guess I really still don't know as far as the vaccine went.

But I do know the fear-mongering and shutting everything down was absolutely ludicrous.

I appreciate the condolences. I expect we're all appointed a day to die but with covid he died alone because hospital's became like prisons. I know trapperman lost a few. TrapperJohn and bulletbox are a few I remember. No one should ever forget/ignore what happened.

I can’t believe some people are still hung up on the covid?
I got the shot so I could started traveling. I wasn’t against anyone getting it, but I certainly wasn’t first in line.
The only people upset about this seems to be the anti Vaxers. Why do they dislike and insult the ones who got the shot, but the vaccinated don’t really give a crap?
I had a minor flu with weird symptoms a few months before the shot, nothing crazy. Both kids were sick for a few days, but the wife got hit hard. Short of breath, weak, low O2 levels……..but she got over it.
Never been sick since, but I rarely got sick before other than the odd sniffle for a day. I just light another dart and blame it on cigarettes.

Well the OP lost his brother and didn't even get to say goodbye because of the stupid lockdowns, so I can see why he would still be a bit upset about it.

People remember the self righteous antics of the vaxxed....Threatening job losses, family shunning, social shunning, guilt trips & blame, etc.

The ones who avoided the jab, had better discernment, and more resistance to pressure, IMO....But realize many had little choice unfortunately.

That is what is truly unforgivable, imo.

Completely aside from my firm belief that this was an intentional GMO bioweapon attack. The totalitarian actions by so many, not just the usual govt suspects, was eye opening to say the least and a clear warning of just who the real enemy actually is.

Sorry for your loss J Staton.
I didn’t see much of the division around here, just all over the news. People and the police didn’t really care about any enforcement as long as you weren’t flaunting it. The odd group pulled a few stunts for attention, they got busted but not much happened after they’re released a while later. Just went about my normal day. I had a mask but it was always in the truck, nobody really cared. That being said, I don’t get out into crowds much.
Trucker convoy turned into a fiasco after it was infiltrated. The courts said that the Turd declaring a national emergency because of it was wrong……..nothings happened.

If you think Fauci was bad, you should’ve seen our national health freak. Looked like death had its grip on here since the start.

Never forget that p.o.s. Biden and his ilk wanted to mandate everyone get the shots. Those people are still out there and many of them are in positions of power.

Yep, when Ice Cream Joey started talking a mandate on employers with 100 or more people, it made up my mind on retirement.

Many younger ones caved though, and got the jab out of fear of not being able to support their families.

In the end he wasn't on legal ground, but he knew his speaking out about it would subjugate many, and it did.
