Just for kicks, if you have owned a significant position in this stock for two years, what would be your near term play? Buy more, sell or just hang on for the ride?

For the record, my average cost per share is $405.

I would hold. Even though you could double your money by selling now, EME builds data centers and plenty of data centers are needing to be built. Their fundamentals look decent. I feel this company has potential for more growth.

The reason I wouldn't say to buy more is simply because of diversification. Why put all your eggs in one basket? You already said you have a significant position in it. I'd instead invest in a different company, either in a different or the same sector, based upon what the rest of your portfolio looks like.

All it takes is one company to come along and outperform them and the stock goes down like a rollercoaster. With data centers under the scrutiny and ire of the general public, I would guess that graph could look like a saw blade with regularity.

Set your own sell price and be strict. Then set a buy price and be strict.

Age is just a number. Traditional thinking is that as people age they should invest in lower risk assets. But, imo, that is only the case if you plan to need that money in the near term. If you don't.... then it's just a matter of what your level of risk tolerance is. For all we know, trapperkeck could have a few mil sitting in bonds and treasuries already and this is just his mad money. Maybe he already has all the money he needs set aside and his plan for this money is aggressive growth to grow the inheritance for his heirs.

This stock has a beta of 1.13 which means it's just a bit more volatile than the market in general. It's HV is around 40% putting its volatility at about the same levels as stocks such as GOOG, HUM, UNH, CMI, etc. It's not like it's SNDK or something lol.

My first question is why do I own it? Am I trying to use it as income or wealth growth?

If I knock off a chunk next week, am I going to get hammered on tax`s?

Like bowhunter said, the data centers are getting the evil eye lately and looking at the drop over the last 2 months, that may very well be where the drop came from. The podcast The Shawn Ryan Show recently had Erin Brockavich as a guest and it seems this anti data center deal is gaining traction. Here`s the link;

Over the last 18 years or so, I have given back a ton of gains and I can honestly say with the benefit of hindsight, there is no nobility in going down with the ship. Yep, I feel dumb as a fencepost on some of those trades.

Irony being what it is, cashing in a winner to convert into precious metals at this point in history may seem like the monster move of a lifetime. Check it out;

I would have sold it way to early and gotten into something else----I don't hold much. I watch a lot of stocks that I have sold go way up higher, but also many more go to the basement........jk

If I owned EME at this point in my life , and since you have achieved long term tax treatment, I think I might sell half and write calls against the remaining half. I might even sell some puts just to maintain a delta neutral position with the short calls....................IF you believe the stock still has room to run.

How many shares do you own. Sell enough to get your investment back. Ride the rest. OR sell it all. If dems win in 2028 the global warming crap will fire and things that eat up the environment will drop like biden on a bicycle....

Stock market investors have many choices from day trading, buy and hold, buy and sell when stock goes up etc... Buy and hold investing is a wealth building strategy verse day trading which is a profession that has constant and perpetual work to make money.

Only 1 to 4% of day traders can actually make a total living from day trading. The 97% fail and stop within a year of trying. The other option is to buy and time the markets and sell when your stock goes up. If you need the money then that my work for you. Then at sometime you want to buy again what do you buy and that war starts all over again when to sell or when to hold game.

I'm a firm believer after being in the markets for 45 plus years is that buying and holding and gaining growth with time and compounding is the best path for me. Data also confirms that method is the best for success. Of course risk is the driver for everyone and how the maneuver through their investment.

It doesn't have any volume. The 50 day moving average is headed down. The stock is heading down. I'd be nervous holding AI waiting for it to break out. I dumped all mine. That worked fine for me yesterday but no so well today. You could hold and see what the data does in the next few weeks. Or you could sell and see what the data does in the next few weeks and buy back in if you wanna. Thats probably what I'd do but its hard to say and Im not you. Nothing wrong with taking profits and moving onto something else but maybe you know all about that company and what its potential is, which I do not.
