Caught a bunch a couple years ago. Filleted when caught, kept on ice and vacuumed sealed. Brought home. Fried some that day. Some of the fish ever and a was raised on walleye and perch. They got progressively worse every time I cooked them. After 2/3 months they were very bad. Lived summers on Kelley's Island in lake Erie and put up 50 milk cartons of fish for the winter. Never noticed the difference. What's up?

I never experienced halibut "going bad" after a month or two, and I am certain my family and I have consumed over a ton of halibut, both fresh and frozen.

While I don't have the experience of AV, I've ate a few hundred pounds of halibut over the years, and have not experienced that either. In fact I had some last night from August of last year, and am having the leftovers for breakfast. Tastes good to me still at a year old.

I've never experienced that either.

Could it be rancid ?

We also have eaten halibut that’s fresh and old and no issues. Took some friends visiting to The Salmon Bake here in Fairbanks and was when they just had opened in the spring and the halibut was terrible even had a smell like it was really old. Haven’t been back!
