Does anyone have much experience with Bridger #2 traps and red fox? I like them for coyotes and wondered if they'd be too much for fox.

Haven’t you caught any reds in your coyote sets to give you an idea?

Not with Bridger traps but with Northwoods, pretty much the same trap. They worked fine.

No. I only run a few canine sets on my private property. I've got mostly MB550s and few Bridger #2. All the fox I've caught have been in the MB550s.

Do you have issues with the 550's on fox?

The few I've caught looked good.

I just think the #2 beds a lot easier for me than the 550. It always feels more solid when I get it in the ground. Most of my canine sets are in the woods and the ground is like a sponge in most areas.

HT7, I feel that the Bridger #2 & MB 550 are both overkill for fox.
Those two traps are way too heavy for the smaller target.

The MB 550 with the cast jaws will be more forgiving, but the weight of the trap on such a small critter could cause issues at times.
The Bridger #2 on the other hand has too may sharp edges along with its heavy weight.
That is a bad combo for the little guys.

You might also take into consideration that you may want the option to release one now and then.
I would consider using MB450’s on the fox spots if possible. The 450 will still hold a coyote so it is a win win.

I use them, but my sets have a lot of cover. I use a step down dirt hole mostly, but I really cover my trap more than I probably should. Majority of my catches are on the pads. If I use that trap in a post set, with a thin coving layer of dirt, I sometimes get them a bit high. But I have a short chain and extra swivels. So there usually isn't an issue with damage, just a little cutting with the edge of the jaws if over the pad of the fox. Luckily, We have decent size fox here. As Tejas indicated, the 450 would be a bit belter and its a decent trap to hold a coyote.

i ran some #2 Bridgers that were four coiled and laminated last year late in the season, i used them in hay sets and dirt holes. I only caught about a half dozen in them but found them to be very foot friendly to red fox.

Ive caught about 200 reds in them. Had trouble with foot damage when I first used them with a stock trap, the offset gap is a little wide from factory. I took all of mine down from 1/4" to 1/8" and haven't had an issue since. Great trap
