Power was acting odd. Checked the main in th breaker box. One leg was 136volts the other was 101.

Called the power company thay had it fixed in about 2 hours or so.

It burnt up the circuit board inside the furnace found it by smell. Also my new upright freezer won't come back. on. Its full of deer beef and chickens.

Is it something that can be fixed on the freezer and if so would it be worth it. It has a digital display on the door abd it just stays black now.

The freezer is probably toast, I guess you can try unplugging then "rebooting"... they don't like power surges or low voltage...hope I'm wrong...

You may be able to put a claim in against the power company if it was on there end

If the freezer is over seven years old, replace it. Your homeowner policy should cover these damages, subject to your chosen deductible. Call your agent and keep your receipts and documentation from the power company.

I called the place I bought it to see if they had new ones in stock and what the current price is. The fellow told me I bought a 5 year warranty and it should be covered.

Unfortunately its the weekend so will be Monday beat the earliest before they can look at geting a repair man to come and decide if its tosted.

Its full of beef. Im not sure it will stay frozen that long. May have to load it all up and put it in dad's extra freezer.

Cheap is relative. And not my largest consern but is a consern since im living off savings and have not been to work in at least a month and a half and I dont believe my Neurologist is going to release me to go back any time soon if ever. So yes im watching my spending.

The other issues are space and geting what I want in stock late evening on Saturday night and the store that has it in stock is not open on sunday.

So loading uo the truck and driving it the few hundred yards to dad's if it starts thawing out works quite well.

I did clear out space for another upright tonight now. But I think I would rather put in a simk and table for the wife there in the laundry room.

I would get the meat out ASAP, as a freezer full of meat may well be worth what several average freezers are worth.

That’s a bummer. Have done some service calls where they have lost the neutral. It can get expensive as far as electronics and appliances it ruins.

Wife is sad just found the coffee pot got fried and wont work. I bet we find a few more things as the day goes by. Should probably check the TV and printer now that im thinking about it.

Edit. Outdoor wood burner blower and solenoid are not working. I have an extra blower motor swaping it out now

Edut 2. There was another solenoid in the back axcess area of the unit from years ago when I was having issues and the installer was trouble shooting and not sure if it was intermittent working. I tested it it worked so put it on . The blower was working but didnt seem to be blowing as hard as it should but it shut off after a few minutes so I replaced it as well.

Its always nice to have replacement parts on hand especially if on weekends and Hollidays.

We had a power spike, several years ago. Over the next few weeks , we lost a tv, freezer and several small appliances. Our deductible, on our insurance, made it not worth claiming. If the bad neutral fault , was on the utility ,side of the service , you might have a claim old 243

Where was the nuetral broke - on your equipment or theirs?

If it broke on the service entrance cable (from the pole to your house), I believe its likely your responsibility. If it broke inside your panel, its definiately your responsibility. But if the failure is out on their equipment, its my understanding that they are quite possibly liable for it.

Since they fixed it in 2h, it sounds like the failure was on their end? I'd suggest Monday morning you call to ask about the process for being reimbursed for failed appliances. Its worth a try anyway.

When you lose the neutral, voltage on the two halves of the circuit float. Instead of 120v and 120v, you could have 210v and 30v. The sum will always be 240 but eachnside can be anything. You has high voltage fry the damaged stuff. I don't know how liability works here. Was the broken neutral on your side or theirs?

What was the cause? May be worth a damage claim with the utility. If it was workmanship, you should get some dough back……..usually it’s a customer owned tree if it’s overhead……. Here, you’d be SOL if that’s the case.

Tha cause was the servis drop rubbing on a tree between the pole and house.

So far other than some excitement and frustration I will be out about $220 to replace my extra wood burner parts. 250 to 500 if I can find on for the circuit board in the old furnace, and less than 100 on the coffee pot as long as nothing else goes out, and the freezer is covered by warranty.

Ultimately not to bad and not worth an insurance claim after the deductible. Pretty fortunate really. Heck w it could have been much worse and I have learned a few things. I have spent more on formel education that was never worth the cost or been useful. These lessons are useful.

If you keep the freezer closed it should last at least 3-4 days frozen

I believe your corect. I didnt know how long it would stay cold but my wife was trying to get a head start on moving all the meat while I was diagnosing and fixing the wood burner and everything was still frozen solid. So we didnt move anything. Hopefully i can get the service tec out early and get it fixed or a new one under warranty by the afternoon. Or I may go buy another one tomorrow and have an extra.

The one that went out can be a fridge or freezer and my wife had been talking about how she thinks having one as a fridge would be nice( the boys run through the food and going to the store for things as often as we do is geting old.) A full up 21 or 23 cubic foot fridge only would cut down on mid week shoping trips.

So If I get one I can use it for a freezer for now and when my current one is fixed or replace one would be an extra fridge or freezer depending on needs. Not bad for a worst case. .Best case I dont have to buy one and it gets fixed n or replaced fairly early tomorrow.
