Had a land owner call today said he saw two jet black mink anyone ever caught one. Wondering if it’s genetics or late summer color change.

Up here we get ranch runaways every so often.

I have caught one black mink...

A lot larger than usual...must have been an escapee at some point

There was a post not so long ago about mink. Color down your way was more like muskrat fur while mine up here are more black in color. Im guessing like many critters it's a regional thing

Yea I’ve always seen nice brown with white patches on belly . Hopefully there still around come november

Up here we get a escapee once in a while. The ones I have caught were more pale color and usually much bigger than wild mink.

Seen a few black ones hit on the road near where I work, a few years ago I went past one that looked in good shape but because I was busy I figured I’d stop later a pick it up but when I came back it was flattened, it had to be intentional because it was off the emergency lane so the would have had to swerved way over to hit it

One of the old guys I work with told me that 60 some years ago there was a mink farm in the area and when it closed they turned the remaining mink loose so that could explain it

Unfortunately the area is home to near or over a million dollar homes so I doubt they would be all that thrilled to find me trapping in their backyard, each of the neighborhoods there also has a pond in the center and almost all of those marshes are loaded with rat huts,

More rat huts there then in the rest of my area combined

Talked to the fur buyer today the darker the mink the higher the price guess I’ll take advantage if these darker mink
