I was looking through trap suppliers online the other night at cage traps for beaver. I came across a knockoff of the Hancock trap that wasn’t a Korro trap. It was quite a bit less expensive and I wanted to look into it now I can’t find it. Where I am at I can’t run leg holds or other steel so I am looking at other options anyone else have any suggestions.

While you’re at it, look at the Ztrap beaver cage traps. Well built and a whole lot cheaper than Hancock or some of the others.

I have used the Comstock beaver trap with some success in runs and slides where situations and customers wouldn’t allow the use of body grips or footholds.
They definitely work in certain situations but not on a dam break. The beaver will just pack it full and make it part of the dam.

Here's a video of Mr. Comstock using cages at dam breaks. Maybe it doesn't always work out in the real world, but he shows what works for him.

I have done close to what Jim is showing a few times over the last few years. Works if you are careful with your set up and blending. The water flow he indicated is important to get them interested in going into the trap without causing that aggressive plugging the dam leak reaction.
