Been 6 cases, I believe, here... complicated by no one thinking to test for it, blamed on ticks carrying the disease from sick rabbits..
Another reason to hate ticks!, be careful out there!...

in the late 60's we lost all our snowshoe hares heard it said it was tularemia overcrowded yes ticks no, despite large sections of popple and balsam they have not come back yet

We have had localized outbreaks of it in the Grand Rapids area going back into the 60's to my knowledge. I know I turned in a couple of muskrats that I found dead on an ADC job on a golf course in the 90's. They tested positive for tularemia. Had a beaver test positive out of the Greenville area back then as well. A buddy of mine out of the Lansing area contracted it from a dead muskrat scratch he received on his arm. It barely broke the skin. No blood even. But within a few days he had a line going up his arm toward his armpit. Be careful out there.
