I always look forward to them getting ripe about this time of year, plus they keep coming well into October. However, they are a terrible invasive plant in the Pacific Northwest. They will take over every unmaintained piece of open, unshaded ground, any abandoned pasture quickly becomes acres and acres of solid impenetrable thorny hedge 10 feet high.

....and coons, and coyotes, plus deer love the leaves, however, if I could make them all disappear immediately I would.

I wonder if that is what my neighbor used to grow. They got taller and bigger berries than the native wild ones here on my property but didn't have much flavor. No acid I think. He kept them under control and they are gone now. We have plenty of other invasives to battle, like Multiflora Rose, Autumn Olive, Tree of Heaven, and Johnson Grass.
