Anyone ever do this?
Been weighing pros and cons.
Would a critter chew it off fighting the trap??
Would it get covered up making it harder to see during the dyeing process?
Would it harder for theives to steal your traps ?

I haven’t done it ,,, just one of those things that pop into my head sometimes.
Your thoughts??-
——————————————
I guess I should have been a little more specific..
I was referring to riveting them to the frame.

Ive done it for years, get the tags w a hole in each end, fold in half so holes line up, stick one of the ends through a link. Install pop rivet and set. Use steel rivets, not aluminum, it will corrode if it is a copper tag. I install on the third link from the attachment end, the end the trap is on. I have had coon chew on them but no worse than those attached other ways.

Could..... Probably...... No

Wrap the tag around a chain link or swivel body and be done with it

As Pop-Rivets are made of aluminum, you would have to be careful what you used to clean traps with, so they wouldn't dissolve.

Drive rivet to the base.

Chewed off tags can cost large here.

Hog ring mine into the chain. Either way they probably get destroyed in a catch.

Way back in the 70's I riveted my tags to the bottom of my pans on all my no. 2 V coilsprings, the old square jaw traps that i used for fox and mink back in the day. No coyotes around than. Seems like I got the idea from one of the better trappers I knew. Never had fox chew any completely off but after years of use they became unreadable
so I have been attaching to chain ever since.
I still have some of these traps I use for rats and mink. The pic.shows one with the old rivet holes in the pan. [Linked Image]

Pop rivets can be steel or even stainless steel, not just aluminum.

Well, like most folks,, I put them on the chains.
But figured maybe someone else might have done it and asking would have saved me the trouble.
But apparently you know EVERYTHING there has been and will be about trapping.
So pardon me for not having your godlike powers.
I thought this forum was about learning and exchanging ideas… if that’s the case,, why are you here?? I mean you’ve already done everything that has or will be done.

One wrapped around a link in the chain. And another attached to the chain with them little hog ring things. If a tag gets chewed up I am still covered. And the rules don't say you can only have one tag per trap. G.

I always just wrapped the tag around a link in the chain.
Never lost a tag that way.
When I caught my wolverine, the GW said I know your trap was tagged, and never unwound the tag, because enough could be read.
And that was before the number system.
Now for recovering a stolen trap, get a metal scriber , and scribe your number or name on the base of the trap.
Maybe in more than one place.

Here we just have a number I stamp it right in the trap. Most times the frame or under side of the leavers. Never had one chewed or fall off yet.

I did it to bottom of frames on some #1 longs and it worked fine. The bottom of the frame was about the best place I found to put the tag like that and not have it chewed up.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
