As an easterner that can’t relate to coon densities found in Iowa, I’m curious what part of the state has the highest coon densities? Assuming eastern Iowa? Curious what folks think. Thanks

Probably SW Iowa, like Dave said. But they seem to be plentiful about everywhere.

The top third of iowa in the middle sucks because its mostly farm ground. The biggest catches are on the west coast. especially the southern part.

guys are probably right. Back in the late 70s &early 80s eastern Iowa had a pretty good population too. Then is when the old barnes started coming down. Used to be if you stopped at a farm with an old barn, used or not, you could count on several coon. Those barnes don't exist any more. That and hot many fence rows now a days. Tiling fields contribute to the loss also.
Just saying it ain't like it used to be here. BTW north of 80 the fur is worth more.

There is still a lot of coon in that part of the state, but you are right about the lack of habitat compared to western and southern Iowa.

For the last several years, I have only seen 3 coons in the north central part of the state. I'll save you all a lot of trouble by telling you now to not even bother to come north of Highway 20. I'd hate to see you fine folks waste your time and money trying to find non-existent critters.
