Wright Patterson Airforce Base had at least one area they only let foreign dignitaries hunt bucks. They deer were huge and tame. People would feed them through the fence on Woodsman Drive/Harshman Road. Somebody shot one gigantic buck through the fence. There was a huge uproar about that and then even a bigger one, when it was found out a bunch of foreign bigwigs were being allowed to kill them.

In the seventies, my uncle David shot hundreds of deer on a base than had lots of piebalds. They put thermometers in different parts of the deer and put them in different places, like in the woods, in an open field and in the back of trucks and got data to see how fast they cooled. The data was gathered so that cases could be made against people that shot deer before and after season and before and after legal hours. This was long before online check in.
