The best way to use a mock scrape is when there is an existing scrape line, and there's one good spot to put a stand. (wind, topography, trees, etc.) Maybe there's not a scrape where you can see it from that stand. You make the mock scrape as a way to hold the buck's attention for an extra 30 seconds to a minute. And yes, peeing in it yourself works just fine.
