I use dog proofs as often as possible in my ADC business. However, I continue to loose the caps in the leaves, etc. Has anyone come up with a solution to this? I'm thinking a thin gauge piece of wire from the cap to the chain. Thanks

Are you referring to the Z-Caps? Take a piece of 1/16 cable, use a double ferrule to attach to the cap, use another double ferrule to make a loop on opposite end. Run a spring hook through that loop, and snap it into your chain. No more looking for caps.

We use decoy cord. Or thick string.

I use rocks for caps, about the size of the palm on your hand, and fairly flat. Keeps mice, rain, out of the trap, and gives me a lure holder. I'm thinking about painting some with a white latex paint for easy visibility, when checking and looking for them in the trap circle when a catch has been made. If i lose one, I can get a replacement at the next bridge.

Keep your boots dry.

I use golf balls, keeps the mice out and prevents rain from getting into the dry bait. I usually paint half of the ball a sandy brown color ( I put them in an old egg carton and just paint the exposed side). I try to keep the painted side facing a direction that I think someone may see the trap just to keep it somewhat camouflaged. Once a have a catch, I still have a very visible color to see it in the catch circle. Used golf balls are cheap and if they happen to steel one to play with, I just replace with another one. Works for me anyway.
