I love old fishing gear and found these two reels Sunday morning. I've never been much on spinning as I fly fished all my life but other than that I liked baitcasters.

Most don't know but the spinning reel was invented in Italy by an outfit named Alcedo. The president of Italy even gave one to Ike on a state visit. Ike was a big fly fishing fan as well, but even he understood that the spinning reel was a huge revolution in sport fishing because anyone could cast it unlike baitcasters.

Here are the two I picked up. One is a Pezon Michel and the other was made by Crack, (odd for me too), but I've had both of them apart and they are clean and perfect in function. Now I need to find a couple shorter old glass rods so they look right on the river.

Last picture was a recent sunrise at the house.

Patrice... my best guess is early 60's, but the earliest models came out in 1939 and didn't have a bail so you had to gather the line with your finger. Dupont invented monofilament in 1939 as well, so it makes sense, as using a reel like that with older braided line would be a mess.

And Turkey Wrangler, for me the spin cast reels were just as important because you could take a 4 year old fishing.

We have it so easy these days.

Pete
