I see where Trump wants to give convicted felons the right to own firearms.

I support this. Why for several reasons. One many felonies are nonviolent, 2 if they paid their debt did the time and are safe to be out on the street they have the same right to self defense as you and I . If they are not safe to be on the street they should stay locked up or hung from the neck in the town square.

If they have served their sentence and are off probation....then they should be allowed to own/possess forearms again.

Have we been amputating arms and I missed it? LOL.

I too think they should be able to own firearms if they have "done their time".

So, joe gang banger has served his time and has become an asset to your community. So, give him or her a gun. I hope they all move in next door to you.

The proposal is limited to non-violent offenders, no sex offenders, no one considered a potential threat to society. Those convicted of fraud or similar white collar crimes classed as felonies that have served their time and paid their debt to society, may request to have their 2nd amendment rights restored. Seems rather reasonable to me.

I look at it this way; if a felon is considered safe enough to leave out of jail and live among the general population then he should be considered safe enough to legally possess firearms. If he's not considered safe enough keep him/her in jail.

Eh...wot?

Beav this is the question you asked. Don't like the answers? Just because you are a convicted felon doesn't mean you killed someone. I have mixed feelings about this myself so I don't know how I would answer.

Gang bangers typically prefer to live in town.

That said there are plenty of poor whit trash rednecks that are felons that live out here. Guess what most already have guns regardless of the law. At most is an add on charge if they commit a more serious crime.

If they are going to break a more serous crime that you are scared of they sure wont be worried about an add on felon in possession of a gun charge.

Yep already have several felons from drugs and other things within 10 miles . Guess what the guy that was not a felon living less than 2 miles down the road has been the largest threat to anyone. He shot his wife in the head. ( She didnt hide her affair very well)

They dont have to be a felon to be dangerous. Losts of dangerous people have committed a lot of crime and have not been convicted or caught.

The law does not keep them from geting guns. It just make old Karens feel warm and fuzzy. Another law that dose nothing good. And creats a 2nd class citizen group.

Folks that got an issue with this, aka knee jerk reaction, really need to dig into the history of just what a felon was originally and what it morphed into.

Originally, a felon was a person declared such by the crown as in treason or rebellion. Think William Wallace aka Braveheart. Purely political and did not come with any such nonsense as loss of rights. No, it came with drawing and quartering, gibbeting, or other such gruesome capital punishment. If one survived one did so as a permanent exile and fugitive with the only hope being a change of the political will of the crown.

Only later would the term be shifted onto those found guilty of violating lesser laws of the crown but still high crimes punishable by death or banishment.

It never truly transferred over to the colonies in original form and lost it original intent with the newly formed republic remaining merely as a term denoting a "high crime", whatever that may be. And for the first 190 years of the Republic's existance carried no federal penalties as far as gun or voting rights. It was a purely state and local matter and varied widely with some imposing none and others widely using it in a purely political and often racial manner.

I dare you if in doubt to look it up.

Some of us, through youthful bad decisions, may have incurred a "felony". The fact that it happened over 40 yrs ago, and a successful period of probation, may be a more better user and or possessor of firearms than the average joe, just saying.

You said it yourself: Joe has served his time and become an asset to your community. He should therefore also be a gun owner. Sounds like an okay neighbor to me.

Here is a compromise. If a felon is pardoned or gets an early release, he/she cannot vote or own a firearm until their initial sentence is completed. So if you get 20 years and get out after 12, you get to vote and own a weapon upon the completion of your original 20-year sentence.

another thing to consider...many felonies are plea-bargained down to misdemeanors.

they COMMITTED felonies, but are only charged with misdemeanors...no loss of rights.
