That's even cheaper than dirt!, lol

Lot of hate for Hi-Points, people claim they're ugly, but it apparently it goes bang every time you pull the trigger, so there's that, lol

That is kind of expensive for a rat drowner weight because that is all they are good for. As the old saying goes, "Nice ain't cheap and cheap ain't nice".

I have nothing clever to put here.

It's a straight blowback design that is usually limited to .380 and smaller. Therefore the slide has to be very heavy to counteract the discharge. Think brick heavy. So, heavy duty pockets and when it's empty, it makes a good thrower.

They are heavy and ugly. I shot one a friend had and hit shot well at 15 yards. Functioned flawless. Do I want one no. They are cheap and work and for people with little income a good way to protect themselves.

I took a firearms class for private security. One of the other students had the firing pin from a Highpoint permanently embedded in his cheek bone from when it exploded, while he was firing it. He received $40,000.00 in damages, after his lawyer got his cut. The metal in the Mavericks, which later became Highpoints is frequently referred to as pot metal.

I've only handled one and I have no hesitation in calling it a piece of crap.

A lot of them get turned in at gun "buybacks", a name which has never made sense to me. That's the best use for one.

I have that pistol, it has ridden in the truck for almost 20 years. I have used it for skunks, porcupines, coons some long-range practice on prairie dogs and a badger. It has always fired and worked fine. Like all slide actions I have used if you limp wrist it, it is prone to not cycle correctly but no more so than the high-end pistols I have shot. Take all that with a grain of salt as I suspect I have less than 500 rounds through it.

they do go bang

the weakness is in the feed lips on the mag , don't try and carry a mag in your back pocket and forget and sit on it . they bend easy then feed badly

dropping them on the concrete is also hard on them.

Dropping mags on the ground is a norm for pistol shooting in a fast way. but this isn't that kind of pistol , if you feel you will need more rounds than the mag holds for rapid deployment get a better gun

otherwise keep the mag in the gun so it stays protected possibly downloaded by 1 round

it is a direct blow back so the weight of the slide keeps it in battery long enough to get the bullet out the muzzle

that makes them heavy for what they are , I would say NOT a pocket gun. sort of compact but not light the C9 weighs more than an empty Glock 17 but only holds 8 rounds

if you want a compact pocket gun on a budget Ruger LC9 or EC9 are actually something you could carry in a pocket with a pocket holster
the C9 is almost the size of the Glock 19 with about half the capacity and definitely does not come to target near as fast.

if I need a gun that goes bang to shoot a critter that I can keep around easily the Ruger Wrangler has been my go-to , not fast to reload , but I have one a guy dropped dinged up the alloy I got for 100 bucks that is usually with me. they are like 160-170 new on a sale.
22lr works in that regard for me and is cheap to shoot.
I cleaned up the ding with a fine file no concern of rusting and goes on the trap line well , I like that it is basically inert until I thumb back the hammer you would really have to work at getting a wrangler to discharge some how without pulling the hammer , it is a transfer bar system so the firing pin has no contact with the rim of the case to fire without thumbing back the hammer.

anyway if it fits your need/want they work
they are cheap
they have downsides
for more money you can get a bunch more pistol but if money is that tight they work.

Thank you. The weight might be a factor and the LC9 sounds good. Ill weigh them both.

the LC9 is 17 ounces , just one ounce over a pound

very thinn and easy to pocket carry in an Alabama holster company Kydex pocket holster or put on a belt in a good pancake holster you hardly even know it is there.
been carrying one since 2012
3.125 inch barrel and about 3/4 of and inch thick
not very hard to remove the magazine disconnect safety there are videos on how.

the EC9 has non adjustable sights , not that I ever adjusted the sites on my LC9

I had a friend who went with the hide cheap guns all over the place , I went with the just carry one good gun in a good holster and have it always available.
I think he had a lot more tied up in guns and less access , but everyone can do their thing.

when he died we went around looking for all the guns , we found a several , then every once in a while his widow would be cleaning and find another.

I’ve (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) one a time or two, never owned one, the one I shot was decent, no jams or other failures and fair accuracy

I still wouldn’t own one except for last ditch all I can get in a pinch

By the way IMHO while it’s butt ugly and dirt cheap there’s worse guns out there some pretty pricey as well

I had one for several years, definitely worked every time. I called HiPoint to get a breakdown diagram. The lady I talked to said we don’t offer one, oil it after 5000 rounds. Oil it again after another 5000.

I have a High Point 9mm, but not that model. It has always worked fine for me.
