A friend...... that most of you know but that I am not gonna publicly name....... got a felony decades ago..... for FISHING.... and has not been able to own a gun since, despite the fact he makes his living from the outdoors. There is no justice in that.

they have them anyway

I may feel slightly different about it

Yes if you have done your time and are deemed safe to be in public then yes a right to a firearm should return, they trust them to vote and drive and such.

I however think the standard for getting out of prison should be high enough that you can be trusted with a gun. so manslaughter getting a 15 year sentence the serve 3 and are out I am not a fan of.

so I guess , you are safe enough to own a gun to get out is where I would set the standard.

If they are not safe enough to own a gun , then they should at least remain on probation until they are.

I am tired of the government turning out prisoners they know are not safe to return to the public using the streets as a jail house.

Great post and you nailed it. The problem isn't felons that have served their time owning guns. The problem is the court system loosing people that have no right to be free.

I will just come out and say it. If the crime was serious enough to be say 20 years or life they should be killed. There should be no life long drain on the tax payers. And if they have done something bad enough to be locked up even 20 years and after seeing locked up that long will they ever be safe to be in the street.

On the flip side many laws and reasions people are filling prisons up with should not be on the books.

Edit to add. Child rapist should be automatically killed within less than a year IF its well proven and not just some bs from a mad parent. Same for rapist and anyone knowingly having child porn.

That said there should be some common since used. The 18 year old i read about that just turnd 18 2 weeks a go that took a 43 second video of his 17 year old girlfriend of 2 years that also turns 18 in a few week should not be facing child born felony charges either. But he is.

2nd edit. Parents that want to and encourage gender changes for their children and the doctors that do them should also be eliminated.

Perfect a example. I know and have worked with many people over the years and was suprised when I learned they had a felony over something dumb in their youth. Some were a touch rough around the edges but that was their up bringing. There was absolutely no reason for them to not legally be able to have a gun. I say legally becuse thay always had guns anyway many I have hunted and shot with. Very good people just caught up in some stupidity when they were young and picked up a charge with over weighted and lasting consequences.

Funny how some like the op flip out and mind go to worst of the worst when I he likely has hunted, shot with, and lives by a few felons and does not even realize it. Most dont advertise it after all.

Well unfortunately I can tell you a personal application. At 15 years old, I was on the telephone in my sisters room talking to my girlfriend on a corded phone. We had 2 phones in the entire house. My sister at 14 came in shoving me and demanding I get off "her" phone. I pushed her back as I was talking on the phone. I then hung up and exited her room. She evidently called the cops on me. Our doorbell rang and I went down opened the front door and got arrested at 15 and hauled to jail on the charge of domestic violence. After completing the 12 step program, I received my certificate I had accomplished Domestic Violence course and was reformed. Knowing what I know now - I never should have been charged as an adult. I had to wait until I was 16 to even drive to my domestic violence class the judge ordered I attend. I was told my record was expunged as I was only a juvenile and I had completed the course. What a crock and I lost a lot of respect for our system then. My dad was working nights and mom had just gotten home with groceries while I was in the cops car. Dad got me out the next morning. I don't think either of my parents knew I was going to be charged.
So yes - the domestic violence thing is totally ridiculous as I have first hand experience of bad charges.

I really hope your sister got seriously grounded for that crap. A very good persional example.

I know several guys that when geting divorced their wifes filed protective orders. Temporary stripi g them of their 2 a rights, keeping g them away from their home and kids as well. No proof of any threat just file a paper and say im scared. Seems to be standard operating procedure recommendations from chicks divorced attorneys.

Ther is not a single judge that will deny signing the order knowing its bs. Becuse There is always a .01% chance some guy will snap and actually do something when faced with loosing half his stuff, having to fight to be a part time dad, and statically becuse the wife filed for divorce and likely cheating when she got board.

Marriage is the only contract I know of where one party can break it and be rewarded. Its a wonder more men dont break and loose it durring divorces. My theory is they hold it together becuse they have kids.

You said it yourself: Joe has served his time and become an asset to your community. He should therefore also be a gun owner. Sounds like an okay neighbor to me.

I agree

I don't believe people are let out of jail is because they are reformed. Jail times are short, because they need to make room for the next customer. The next customer is probably a repeat offender.

I have no problem with this because I have a friend who got drunk years ago and decided to bust the Main Street windows in a town he did jail time plus paid the damage and restitution as far as I’m concerned he’s got a clean slate

No there is not. See my post and how Alabama does it.

Wanna bet? I know someone who has done it.

I know a guy who is a convicted felon because he gave a walrus tusk he found on the beach to a waterfowl hunting client. Had an incompetent attorney, long story; now he's a felon.
Not all felons are bad guys; you could be one if the powers that be take a mind to make you one.

Who says that's not their goal? Each year the law books get bigger and bigger and the worst part is much of it created by folks we never elected or ever heard of.
