Get them out on all their currently mostly vacant traplines.

Awesome! Same thing going on here up north, and I assume in other provinces. Some kids stick to it and keeps them out of the gangs. Some do the gang life and return to the bush life after they get out of jail.
In Manitoba, trappers getting their certification is a problem, especially up north but that’s changing. And the COs know this. They’re not generally gonna ding a kid that’s all trained up with a mentor and just waiting on paperwork……..it’s a different life up there.

I like the holding power of a belisle but don't really like using them as they don't fit H stands worth a flip and can't cross stick them like you can other type 330's, i have a set that i have to do that with and it's not possible with a belisle.

Those are two of the most very uneducated comments I’ve heard this morning, and I’ve got CNN on………it’s still early but that’ll be tough to beat……lol
I honestly question if you even trap, or maybe just doable with a set every now and then……. Nothing wrong with that BTW, just gotta watch what you comment on cuz you’ll get called out on a trappers forum if we smell BS.

I don’t have any Belisle’s, but the last few old school Duke Magnums I bought were sure overpowered. Bent the spring eyes setting two of em. Got a dozen Bridgers last spring to stock back up and was super happy with everything about them. Though I know Belisles are the Cadillac, just couldn’t justify it for my case. Happy trapping! More native(and non native) trappers certainly would be good thing

But the numbers wouldn’t be even close to making up for being shut out(priced out) of the US market,,,

If that’s what is actually being discussed here,,,,

I’m not knocking the immigrants, just simply stating that in today’s world, assimilation is not overly common. I go up north to Canada a couple times a year and have done so for the past 35 years or so. It is shocking to see the cultural change that has occurred in many places up there. I’m simply saying that the influx from India and SE Asia are probably not going to keep our great shared tradition alive. No need to be but hurt. I admire your trapping skills Boco, they are much better than your diplomatic skills…. LOL wink

Not sure who he/she is, but has difficulty making sets with Belisles, and the statement on something they know nothing about is a couple things I found strange coming from an experienced trapper. We all know that rules are different state to state, even county to county. If I'd make a mistake like that, I'd expect to get grilled here and rightfully so.

Shakeyjake,
Jtrap has killed more beavers and other critters using traps than you have ever seen...even from the top of a powerpole.

Now I'm taking heat for calling out bad information about trapping regulations in another country, and for wondering why a trapper is having difficulties setting up a B330?

The two statements had me kinda baffled coming from someone that you say has trapped for a while. Canadian regulations, and B330s with stands and sticks. I've never had these problems using all kinds of mish mashed stands........and sticks are sticks.......make it work. If someone prefers a different brand and they're used to them, whatever blows your hair back man.

Sounds like one or two are a bit butt hurt over my comments........except Jtrap. You know why? Jtrap probably doesn't give a rip and doesn't need to prove anything to anyone......lol.
So if a newbie stated false info & mentioned issues using certain traps, it'd be OK if they were corrected, but an experienced trapper gets the pass for doing the same thing?

OK. Back to super expensive Belisles. If they're too much $$, just use what you got and stack fur.

I stack fur with mostly Victor's. I like the way the old school safeties flop. Ioose so I can swing them on or off. Can't get use to those flat safeties that are stiff and don't spin freely. Have them on another brand of traps and took them off. And put on some of the kind I like.
Sometimes it just what you're use to and comfortable with. As long as folks are trapping and doing their thing. THAT'S WHAT MATTERS!
I stabilize 330's like jtrap and can see what he means with the sticks.

Back to prices lol Shakey.

Im good with it. Prices have been rising my whole life. Probably have more 330's than I could ever use anyways.
Bought a stack of used victor 330's i like from a guy that sold them cheap and switched to belisles during the first craze of them.

I can't figure out why people have to keep buying new traps, if the old new ones were so good? I haven't bought a new trap in probably 20 years. Half my traps I bought before that were used.

Traps get stolen, traps get taken out by an excavator and some start to lose strength. I like a strong trap not an over powered one.

I think you need to check some statistics.
Canada produces half the beaver taken anually in North America (WFMC).
Canadians beaver trappers use bodygrips for the vast majority of their harvest compared to US trappers.
Probably why the best bodygrip traps were developed and manufactured in Canada.
Bodyfrip use is restricted or banned in many parts of the USA
According to this thread it seems many US trappers prefer to use inferior traps if the price is less
So even if belisle sauvageau and LDL were not sold at all in the USA there will still be a big enough market in Canada to keep them going just fine.
Plus if the US tarrifs remain any company using Canadian steel will get a sub from the govt to protect jobs and the economy.
If US wants to use protectionist policys for their economy we can too albeit in a different way..
