Same holds true with wolf. Lots of new comers opting for an inferior trap as it's cheaper and they can get more steel out. Then come out asking for reasons why they can't get any success.

How bout this.....
I'm taking my grampas old sporterized Lee Enfield 303 on a $20000 sheep hunt next year. Guide says the average shot taken is + or - 400ish yards, and I can comfortably group 4" at 100yds with gramps old gun with no rifling left. If I connect, the animal can't tell the difference between and $8000 7PRC or gramps old $50 303 British. The $8000 gun is capable of delivering terminal performance accurately out to said ranges, but the British can kill too and way cheaper. Even a gut shot will kill it eventually right?
It's not like it's a $100000 hunt. Stupid? Yes.....Ethical? No, but who cares? Dead is dead.

I just bought a 303 for $430 last week. I was offered $600 for it and I turned that down. Lol

Good read…….lol

I will use Bélisle traps first. Got a great stockpile of 330s. Probably 3 dozen 330s I haven’t even opened yet. Last dozen I bought was about 2018. Paid $330 Canadian or $239.11 American. Hard to use the new ones because the old ones just need a trigger wire replaced every so often.

Do they bend? Very few times. But when they’ll hold a muskrat by the tail I wouldn’t trade em

Saw the duke copy in Sioux falls at the 2024 FTA convention. Looks like a good trap but never set or used one. Use whatever you like!

Just bought 10 Bélisle traps at an auction 3-120s,1-220 and 6-280s all brand new after fees it worked out to $3.74 Canadian or $2.71 American a trap.I will keep buying them at that price. I guess I need to load up a bunch and sell them at the next convention I attend in the USA. I have no use for 280s

Just looked up 330s I can order to my house. For a dozen it’s $468 Canadian or$339.06 American dollars before tax. Prices have gone up since I looked quite a few years ago.

It’s like the Chevy, ford, dodge argument use what works best for you!

Probably tells them how lousy the USA is while he's at it too.

I doubt a bunch of natives and what few trappers ARE ALLOWED to trap in Canada is enough to keep belisle going since ONLY people with registered traplines can trap up there!

I like the holding power of a belisle but don't really like using them as they don't fit H stands worth a flip and can't cross stick them like you can other type 330's, i have a set that i have to do that with and it's not possible with a belisle.

As for springs flopping around and otter and beaver getting out, SW it sounds like you got some of those flimsy weak Sleep Creek junk 330's a long time ago. Those were the worst 330's ever invented.

I was just enjoying the entertainment in this thread when I encountered a false statement. You DO NOT need a registered trapline in Canada. There are loads of places and many trappers in Canada without registered traplines. I suspect Saskatchewan Canada has less regulations than Alabama regarding trapping. Sure you have to take a couple hour course here once in your lifetime to be able to trap but daily regulations are less restrictive here I’d think.

Carry on.

I used to have a whole bunch of different brand body grippers. As my trapping skills increased I finally realized that the trap I never had to worry about was the Belisle 330. Got rid of all the rest. Have never looked back. Luckily, I likely have enough to last me from here on out.

Don't know why Jtrap or anybody else would have trouble stabilizing them. I use 3/8ths rebar and it fits just perfect.

...carry on! smile

I agree 100%. When I standardized my traps maybe 17-18 years ago, I already had a mishmash of various traps of several brands, both foothold and body grip. I did not, however have any Belisles. As such, I ordered a 330, a 280 and a 120.
It was a no-brainer for me. I sold almost all my body grips and replaced them with Belisles, bought my wolverine traps from NO BS, (closed-jaw Canine Extremes), and my beaver footholds are TS-85s. I did keep a dozen or so 1-1/2 Victor footholds, as well as a few #1s, and never looked back. I junked all my old marten boxes and built new ones that fit Belisle 120s, and never had to wonder if the trap in hand fit the box on the pole. The B-330s were not $500 a dozen back then, but they were much more expensive than the other traps available.
I was willing to cry once.

Just doing what I want now.

This reeks of braggadocio. Surprised that a real Texan would succumb to their baser instincts.

This threads been beaten to death….
High prices, traps are hard to set up, outfitters BSing, Canadian trapping regs, Shaky telling hunting fables, right on up to the venerable bubbaed Lee Enfields …….lol

Bottom line is the dealers jacked up the price on some equipment. Will it ever go down? Probably not.
How do the prices look on the Belisle or Savage replacement parts? Are they up too, or just the traps?
