Who has used it? Yes, it sounds goofy. But here in South Carolina it works. Place bait and or scent up inside the rim and its weather proof. Place trap dead center of tire. Dont ask me way? But size 15 inch tire works best.
Place tires in summer for animals get used to them. Pick up at end of season or leave them if allowed.
Not a high percentage set. But, they produce enough to justify. Also good during a long rain period.
Also works on cats and fox.

You got some desperate coyotes then. I cant see a use for it. I hate the word " works" , i could probably catch a coyote on a stinky sock if i tried hard enough.

I don't know about anyhow else, but I used that set when I trapped In SC and it worked.

Worked out great on raccoons around Philly , sliced sidewall ,wired trap to it. Good drag too. Set inside middle then bait up under. Best in swamps as stream flooding will carry away .

Have used it too...the tire or tires were strewn about in a section of a property I trapped...it was the owner's junk yard.
A two track ran close to the junk yard and I saw coyote tracks nearby. I had heard about the set and figured, Why Not? Lured the under side rim
placed trap in the center and started to catch coons. After a while, caught a coyote and then a second coyote before the season ended. Used the
same tire for a few years until owner sold out to commercial developers.
I learned a few things, a trapper can make the conditions for this set pre-season by pre-staking and then a few weeks out pre-baiting the tire.
AND if the weather has been wet you can cover the opening with a board or whatever is available to keep dirt dry before setting. Even if you
don't set inside tire but need dry dirt just move the tire and dig up around it, I found the dirt is drier underneath. Not a perfect set but its something
to keep in mind.

I haven't used it myself but a trapping buddy of mine uses it in cow pastures to keep the cows out of his set
