Most beaver were shot where RatM went to in Saskatchewan? Are you the type that hang up their steel for a gun when the coyotes fool you too? Firearms don’t even come close to the number of beaver taken with a BG……. The owner calls a trapper after people fail with firearms.

I’ve seen a lot of good DVDs, and a lot of really bad stuff. I’ve only been to a few western states in the last 8 years, but being on TV or a movie didn’t earn you any status in their minds. Not sure how it works in other states. Most of the best trappers I know aren’t on social media and are pretty tough to get a hold of.

So the dealers say they raised the price because of tariffs. Where does the steel come from for the other manufacturers? I didn’t see Germany on the tariff list, but a bunch of other countries are.

The trouble with beaver trappers in the south is that their skills are limited to open water trapping only.so they would be lost trapping under ice.
Whereas Northern trappers have the skills in both open water and under ice as well as all the shoulder seasons,so have no problem operating in any environment.

Why would a southern trapper need the skills to trap under ice?

Northerners have the skills to trap all over southerners only have the skills to trap in the south.
Winter trapping is no harder than open water and if you have good equipment less work since you dont have to hump them out to the buggy in winter,theres big benefits to be able to drive the skidoo on hard water..

When I was on the NAFA WFSC, Minnesota was second only to Quebec in fur revenue produced. In a good coon market, Iowa generated more than either Ontario or Manitoba. There was a reason why Grony and NAFA depots are less than 80 miles apart in the US. Might have something to do with Fur Harvesters jumping on both the Winnipeg and Stoughton depots after NAFA went under too.

I believe a feller that can make a living trapping with cottonmouths,timber rattlers,aligators,mountain lions,black bears,mosquitoes,crackheads and maybe a mean ol farm bull,is a might tougher than a feller who can chop a hole in the ice and set a 330 with some sticks lol
