He was a lawyer. What`s not to hate? They are one of the lowest life forms and most certainly have one of the lowest rings in the pit. The deciding factor was he made the choice to be one. He made the choice to be a rat scoundrel. But doesn`t it seem like that whole place was like the pit? I mean, it seems like most of those people were pretty nonchalant about the taking of human life for slightly less than mandatory reasons. Maybe being a bunch of chronic alcoholics had something to do with that. I just started to skim through this because we're watching it now but never saw the current seasons. We have 5 seasons on DVDs. I know some things that are going to happen but I'll avoid more if I can.

Some of the characters on there are decent, including some of the bad guys. The worst written character on there is the daughter, Beth Dutton. It's idiotic. She's either lashing out at someone, ridiculing someone or whining. When the actors say they are starting to show her softer side (we're only in season 3) she is only slightly less obnoxious for a few moments. It's a joke. There are some reasonable and shrewd business and real estate deals, punctuated by idiotic behavior. Wolfy, if you write that essay, I'll certainly read it!

My son was on a few of the episodes. He said they were excellent actors because what they portrayed on the screen was way different than their off screen personalities. He said everyone was always po'd at Rip because he would not take anything serious and was always joking and pranking people. Beth was sweet and quiet. Tater spoke perfect English. He never got to meet Kevin Costner on the scenes he was in. He really liked Lloyd and they hung out at times.
