Havent ever seen one before. Apparently its a Banded Sphynx Moth, supposedly not a native to southern Illinois. Google said native to the southern states and south and central america. Well somebody forgot to tell this one. Thats the upper frame of my screen door for size reference. Not as big as a Luna moth but still a good sized one.

Those big moths fly super high while mating, to avoid predation. Wind currents can push them well out of their normal range in just a few hours.

My first thought was a Catapla Sphinx moth, they look similar
