Local fire dept put on a carp tourny
my brother in law thought it would be fun so we went
we had a blast cought 1480 lbs of carp

Wish it would be more of those over here. We did have a large summer kill from the heat on the Mississippi River. Asian carp floating everywhere. Bet the coons are getting tired of carp dinners. Nice haul

Fish oil & bait for the trapline....Local processing plant takes in millions of pounds annually to ship overseas.

half of them just jump in the boat the other half we dip netted when they jump
there was a buyer there at weigh-in who was paying 20 cents a pound
he said the state also kicks in another 10 cents a pound the fd got the $
he said they go to the pet food market

Has anyone used asian carp as the fish on a fish stick set for coon?

Commercial fishermen use seine nets on the big rivers here, and I like to bowfish for my oil & bait.

Not sure what the buyer pays per pound, but a e-mail to Two Rivers Fishery in Wickliffe, Ky would get you that info I bet.

Very edible, and tasty....The only hang up is lot's of fine bones.

They are a delicacy in the orient, but are massively overlooked here....They would be easy protein in a survival situation.

The state came up with a great idea, pay commercial fisherman for the carp that plug up their nets/traps and feed them to the critters at the St Louis Zoo! It crapped out pretty quick, I don't know why.

Commercials need a decent return to catch and handle high numbers, fixed costs, labor and the actual grunt work for chump change doesn't pencil out.

We don't have asian carp, here but have marinated and smoked our local carp. They are really tasty. The bones are big ,so you can pick them out easy , when eating. old 243

If you google it. There is a lot of information , about how to fillet them . They have a different bone structure. The ribs just cut into strips , on an angle and pick the ribs out as you eat them. . Great smoked .. I am not able ,to get out and catch them ,anymore. Wish someone would drop my off one. Would prepare it for them, just one , not a boatload. Old 243

Watched a video where the guy grinds them up after he preps them. Then he makes fish patties for fish burgers, fish sticks, and fish tots. He breads them all. The meat looks a lot cleaner and edible than standard carp, IMO. If we had them around here, I would try them.

I have not tried Asian carp but regular carp are a no-go. My family has a zoo so I can tell you that zoo carnivores do not like carp. The bears will eat a small amount of them if they are ground up and mixed with other stuff like donuts, bread, other sweets and ground corn. Foxes, coyotes, wolves and all the cats will not eat them in a zoo situation. I have dumped carp out in a field and even the buzzards leave them alone.
