I live in Michigan, and can get significant variance in the weather, , cold one day, than warm up 30 degrees the next, and back and forth, there is also freezing rain. My main concern is maintaining trap functionality through thaw and refreeze (or freezing rain). I have never used wax dirt, nor any kind of antifreeze. Recently I have had good success trapping coon simply by digging a hold so I can get my trap in the ground a little, and covering it with leaves and/or corn leaves. I use footholds primarily, and I'm wondering what style of foothold is most freeze resistant. I have head generally that longspring>jump>coil in freeze resistance but would like to hear your opinions and equipment. Thanks.

I have the same conditions. Dog proof with a 16oz red plastic beer cup over it. Squirt of fish oil on top and a trailer squirt. Any bait in dp that doesn't freeze

If the goal is dry land sets I would try an antifreeze in the trap bed such as chloride or even salt if the temps are only in the 20s/30s.

Like Turtledale said if you are using footholds. Otherwise you need to have flake antifreeze on your sets. Why are you not trying coin boxes with body grippers. Everything stays high and dry then.

If using DP's you need to make sure the positioning stake does not freeze in.
