Probably put a little sugar in your cornbread too when you weren't watching. grin

Absolutely not! Cornbread was eaten at almost every meal.

To tell you how much I like okra mama would tell of when I got my tonsils out at the young age of 2. She said that I insisted on fried okra and refused the offered ice cream and jello. To this day I do not care for jello.

Warrior. Thanks for the tip. Your three ingredient recipe was way better then the "onion ring' batter I had been attempting to use.

J Stanton. Will have to try them peas next year. Wife likes to try different things every year. This year it was "cowpeas'. Need to research recipes because I am good at growing them. Look like a black eyed pea to me.

We have made pickled okra, good, but not near as good as pickled asparagus. Thanks for all the tips guys! G.

Cowpeas, field peas, blackeyes, pinkeyes, crowders.... all the same with hundreds of named varieties and wide variation in taste and size. You could spend a lifetime growing out all you can and never grow them all.

My three favorites are the older pinkeyed purple hull bvr, zipper cream, mississippi silver crowder. That covers the range of classic, mild and sweet, strong and full flavored.

Want to make the missus happy plant some lady or white acre peas and ask her to shell them. Tiny, tiny peas.

Polecat pea aka calico pea black/white speckled was one of dad's favorite.

Try it with the diced green tomatoes, you'll thank me later. Grandmother in law put me on to that trick.

Smothered okra is one of my all time favorites. In a large enough pot, I brown some quality smoked meat or bacon and cook down some onions. Add cut okra and a little water, salt:cayenne/garlic, hot sauce, etc. Rotel is a good addition, so are a few seasoned shrimp.Simmer until tender. Serve over rice

Boiled with salt is delicious, so is boiled with Cajun/ranch seasonings.

Pickled okra.

Seasoned and fried okra.

Okra gumbo.

Okra and beef short rib soup.

Very versatile. Chubby is our favorite okra to grow, because you can get large pods that are very tender, compared to a lot of other types that get woody after growing a little.
