All feral horse here where used by someone at some point. Im guessing those are better horse because they havent been feral as long as other herds. And from my understanding most " wild herds" were some what culled and managed by the local ranchers up until more recent times than most in the public realize. Even up into the 1900s a lot of the ranches turned out studs to breed the "wild mares".

The wild mustangs are very hard on the landscape, I have hunted elk in areas they live and it?s not good. We really need to get back to slaughtering them. I can?t see anyone taming down an old stallion. I have been very close to sending an arrow through a couple of them. They all look heathy but reck the elk habitat.

Most rescues are some overweight alcoholic woman who likes to horde animals and isn't to proud to grift for donations to enable it.

And single unless she is a lesbo.

Government is already paying ranchers to graze feral horses. I dont think you understand the numbers of horse each year and the amount of land it would take to do this. Then keep in mind the population keeps growing each year. Between the horses shipped out to slaughter and the feral horses roundup each year we are talking close to 40,000 horses each year. In most parts of ranching country thats getting close to a million acres of land each year to run those horses on.

About 12 years ago I deer hunted in area 77 W/NW of Worland WY. Saw plenty of wild horses.

Did some research when I got home, and apparently the herd is known to grow approximately 20% per year. The state or BLM already had large fenced, horse exclusion areas under study even then.

I don't think anything has changed. I have an antelope tag for that area this year, maybe we'll drive around and check things out.

A horse would put a lot of good meat in the freezer.

I'm sorry WD91, but either your fingers are too fat, you were drunk, or the barge was in rough water when you typed this^^^^

I think I figured out what you were talking about, but only because I read some of the replies....lol

I know a lot about this.

Trump isn't sending any horses to slaughterhouses.

A guy from Ohio got some into a Mexican slaughterhouse and the "donate now" groups are capitalizing on that.

Horsemeat can't be inspected for consumption in the USA.

Right now there are 65,000 horses standing around being fed to the tune of $104,000 a day.

This a huge problem on western rangelands as the horse populations are 3-4x over appropriate management levels.

The states can't manage them because they are federal property on federal land.

No Senators or Congressmen from other states will spend political capital on the issue.

The "donate now" groups always convince them that fertility control is the answer, that gives them a politically correct way out.

Fertility control doesn't reduce the existing population by a single animal. It would take centuries for the population to reach AML as overpopulated as they are.

This very morning I was on a call with some Washington lobbyists about forming our own "donate now" organization to fight these people.

Australia has a way with dealing with such matters, Send a guy, or three, to an area, they then shoot everyone they see and leave them to melt away in the heat, unless they're near a water source, then they just drag them away...watched a show where a guy and his abo helper shot a big pile of camels, forgot how many but it was most of a large herd...

The horsie people here would have a heart attack, lol,
