I have ran number 1 Victor longs for coon and they worked fine. Found a good deal on some number 1 Victor coils wondering if they would work for water trapping coon if I put a little pan tension?

They will work. I used to use a lot of #1 coil springs for coons.

There are some caveats to using #1 LONG springs, right out of the box, for coon. In the south, coon are smaller than coon in the rest of the country. A #1 coil is far superior, as is a #11, which is a 2-spring #1.

If you want to use #1 longs for coon, out of the south, move the chain so that it connects to the non-spring side. Then add a mid-chain swivel and a swivel at the end of the chain.

Never too old to learn

Same here I use them as well with no issues.less room for them to chew their foot off. I really like the double jaws if I can find them. I have held 2 diffent otters over the years in #1 coil double jaw.

The old Blake and lamb number one Long Springs with the rounded spring are very strong and are perfect for a raccoon as is.

The 1 coils are great as is.

Double jaws in longs or coils are a nice addition, but not as necessary as they would be on a larger trap like a 1.5.
