Have any of you had this procedure or know anyone who has? My hematologist is telling me I should consider this procedure since my platelet count is so up and down since I take Eliquis for afib. This would eliminate Eliquis.

Grandkids are so much fun. We should have had them first.

I would say no. Taking g a blood thinner when you have AFIB is a precautionary measure. I take a different one. I've had had an ablation. But still take a heart med. afib can be helped but there is no cure.
The Watchman plug the spot where most clots start but doesn't eliminate clotting completely. The blood thinner may stop clotting but it helps prevent clotting.
Better safe than sorry.

Yes, watchman eliminates the need for blood thinners by sealing off the left atrial appendage, where 90% of clots that cause stroke originate. It may take a little time to come off completely but it will eliminate Eliquis. Watchman is very effective also, data is comparable to blood thinners.

My dad got one around 2 years ago if memory is right. He had been in afib 100% of time for quite a while. The procedure went smooth. Think it was something like 6-9 months before he came off the blood thinners. He had been having some pretty significant nose bleeding issues with the blood thinners and those have gone away

Right now my platelet count is at 40. So, they took me off my Eliquis until after a platelet infusion which I will have in two days. If the infusion brings the platelet count up to 50 or more, I go back on the Eliquis. It's a roll of the dice. That's why I was told to consider the Watchman procedure to eliminate the problem.

My FIL had the procedure. Fast, procedure and a positive experience. His brother died of AFIB so he felt the need to do something.
