My daughters love macaroni and cheese and hamburger. Annoys me because growing up we ate it because it was easy to make bulk and we were poor. Cheapest burger and cheapest boxes of mac!

The poorest I've ever been was my first year in college a long way from home. Lived off of snowshoe hares shot with a 22 rifle mostly.
When I went home for Christmas, my Granny brought out two boxes of canned goods and told me to take them to the food bank at the church where my sister got married. I didn't bother telling her that I didn't go to my sister's wedding and had no idea where that church was...
I ate like a king for several weeks. Ate everything but the sauerkraut. The can had a hole rusted through it and looked like a tumbleweed inside or I woulda ate that too.

Mother bought us shoes for Christmas once. I got the right one and my brother got the left.

We were so poor our chickens crossed the road to avoid becoming dinner.
